Due to an unexpected illness, Black Flag Theatre's production of Doug Wright's QUILLS has been postponed until Fall 2018.
The ambitious new doctor in charge of Charenton is obsessed with silencing the “poison pen” of the asylum’s most notorious inmate – the infamous MARQUIS DE SADE. The Marquis – however – is not easily silenced.
Written by Dallas-native Doug Wright (author of the musicals Hands on a Hardbody, The Little Mermaid, and War Paint, as well as I Am My Own Wife, winner of the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama), Quills presents a violent battle-of-wills and a timely debate about the roles of art, speech and censorship that actress Kate Winslet praises as “intellectually similar to Shakespeare.”
Quills won the Kesselring Award for Best New American Play and an Obie Award for Outstanding Achievement in playwriting.
