Cowboy Culture: Vision and Discovery

Dallas Center for Photography

Immerse yourself in the unique North Texas western environment with Tony Bonanno of Santa Fe Photographic Workshops.

North Texas is home to a vibrant cowboy culture that is perfect for exploring your own photographic vision. From the intricate details of a belt buckle to the choreographed dance of a rodeo, this environment is rich with photographic opportunities.

In this combination shooting and editing workshop, you will be inspired and challenged to create photographs that capture the action, animals, and people in this western environment. Our days will be divided between classroom sessions and field shooting, including a high school rodeo and the Fort Worth Stock Show. With Tony’s guidance, you’ll expand your visual and technical skills while learning about this unique culture that shapes much of the personality of the Lone Star State. There will be a special focus on the compositional elements that make a photograph successful. The final day will be spent in the classroom as Tony reviews, discusses and guides your image processing workflow.

Some of the topics Tony will cover:

  • The importance of composition in creating strong photos and tips for improvement
  • How to best photograph a unique cultural environment
  • Technical and creative camera skills including depth of field control, panning and freezing action
  • Image processing workflow
