Jimmy and Jane's Song and Story Swap

The Wild Detectives

What is a song and story swap? It’s a night of Jimmy and Jane trading songs and short stories. Hear Jimmy sing songs like Coffin for a Boat and Peace, Love, and Chicken Fried Steakfollowed by Jane telling stories like Cancer Raped Me and Watermelon, Watermelon, Pico de Gallo. Jimmy and Jane started these shows at their creative outpost, The Double J Hacienda and Art Ranch many years ago. Since then they have performed together at house shows and festivals, and now they’re coming to The Wild Detectives.

Jimmy Baldwin
A Kentucky-born singer-songwriter, Jimmy performs in dusty bars and historic theaters from Austin to Seattle, San Francisco to Nashville and beyond. Raised in El Paso, his sound is rooted in the Texas troubadour tradition. His songs reflect the familiar spirit of country music as it blends with the sounds he grew up on – classic country, rock, border Norteña, and the spontaneous freestyle of the mariachi street musicians of Juarez. An Americana Music top-40 artist and three-time, first-round Grammy nominee. His guitar is the needle that weaves the yarn through the fabric of lost memories and forgotten dreams.

Jane Baldwin
Jane was born in Dallas and raised in College Station on a diet of yard squirrel and lite beer. She ditched Aggieland for Austin and became a Longhorn. Summers in Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala led her into Maya archaeology graduate research. Cancer of the cervix in her late twenties shifted Jane’s interest into yoga, meditation, and creative writing. Today she blogs, writes poetry, short stories, and is finishing her first book, Heart of the Womb: How Cancer Cured My Fear of Love and Motherhood.
