Every year more than 20,000 Dallas County children are reported abused, neglected, or victimized in some way. Ray Lara of the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center and Sarah Crowder of Dallas CASA will discuss how their nonprofit agencies help these traumatized kids. DCAC serves sexually and physically abused children whose cases are referred by law enforcement or Child Protective Services. Working with these and other partners, DCAC provides a coordinated, multi-agency approach to investigation, intervention and treatment. Their assistance reduces trauma for the children, provides a strong foundation if the case goes to court, and enables better outcomes. Dallas CASA volunteers are court-appointed advocates who gather information and make recommendations to help judges decide what is best for each child.
