How to write a Day of the Dead calavera poem

A writer's workshop on how to write a Day of the Dead calavera poem.

A calavera (skull) poem is a poem that pokes fun of death by satirizing a person or persons.

Sylvana Flores Avila is a writer with a BA in Literary Studies from UT-Dallas.

She will provide the participants with examples of calavera poems as well as Jose Posada's calavera prints. She will present the poem structure and other elements required to write a traditional calavera poem.
The workshop is $10 and may be paid right before the workshop begins.

Participants should be prepared to write about a person of their choice, collect information that may be used to describe the person or his/her life.
Participants should bring writing materials or a laptop.
