Bridwell Library Presents: Dr. Mary Jane Haemig A Reformation for all the People: How Printed Works Spread the Reformation
A lecture at Bridwell Library by Dr. Mary Jane Haemig, Professor of Church History, Director of the Reformation Research Program, Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota. The varied works in Bridwell Library’s exhibition, Martin Luther in the Age of Print, attest to the fact that Luther’s reformation - and the discussions it produced - had an impact on all levels of society and all sorts of people, not simply on university and learned audiences. Many of the works in the exhibition demonstrate the reformers’ desire to convey reformation insights in ways that all people could easily understand. Luther, his fellow reformers, and his opponents sought to build up knowledge of the faith and equip their followers to counter opposing views.
