Trip to Bountiful

Brookhaven College Performance Hall

In THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL, Texas playwright Horton Foote explores the thematic idea of ‘home,’ an elusive place we long for but that always seems just out of reach. Carrie Watts, an elderly woman, wants to return to her beloved, rural hometown of Bountiful, TX, thereby escaping the unfulfilling life and cramped Houston apartment she must share with her frail son and his authoritarian wife. Opportunity presents itself, and Carrie ‘runs away,’ dead set on returning to the place where life was/will be better. Gentle new friends aid her on the journey, but she discovers that the past has indeed helped sculpt us, but memory often over-idealizes it and inhibits our optimism about the future and our ability to find ‘home’ in the present.

This production also represents a collaboration between the professional theatre company, One Thirty Productions, and Theatre Brookhaven. In the starring role of Carrie Watts is charismatic stage and screen actress Gene Raye Price.
