Mighty Fine Arts presents "Microscopic Cross Sections" featuring new work by Sharon Neel-Bagley. This show opens Saturday Sept.30 with artist reception from 6-9pm and will run till Sunday Nov.12. Dallas seen from overhead perched atop one of the high towers of Oz appears shockingly green. A vast canopy of green covers much of the cityscape though it seems most of us pay scant attention. Some of these are new growth, many are legacy trees, old witnesses to the changing shapes of urban life. Sadly it seems we have a cavalier attitude toward the natural history of Dallas and often clearcut out trees and brush in developmental frenzy and quick profit. Maybe its time to arrest our inattention, get out of the car, get off the cellphones and take a deeper look around us. Sharon Neel-Bagley's poetic views of cross sections of local arbor reveal the mute voices and unspoken beauty of the green life we overlook. These bits and branches are repositories of secret narratives and if we ponder close enough we might conjecture a larger purpose. Sharon's exquisite work grants us pause and inspires our sense of wonder.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Sharon Neel-Bagley is a conceptual photographer and lives and works in Dallas, TX. She produces work in a wide-range of disciplines, including photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. In September 2017, Sharon was awarded the Umbrella Artist Grant for her work. In 2016, she was selected for the Acclaimed Artist Series for State of New Mexico. In 2015, Sharon’s public art piece “Crimson Reader”, was installed at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library.
Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the country. Her work is in the collections of Earl's Restaurant, Plano, TX, Cosmopolitan Suites, Las Vegas, NV, Capital One Corporate Art Collection, Dallas, TX, Farmington Museum, Farmington, NM, NYLO Hotel, Plano, TX and the Jesuit Dallas Museum, Dallas, TX. She has a BFA from the University of North Texas in Fine Art Photography.
