Bruce Wood Dance Presents Rise

Moody Performance Hall

Bruce Wood Dance presents Rise. An exploration of grit, perseverance, compassion, and hope.

Rise features two Bruce Wood classics: The Only Way Through is Through, the fierce embodiment of relentless determination - and the Dallas premiere of, Lay Your Burdens Down, his highly sensitive work about kindness, empathy, and helping those in need.

Rise also includes the exciting world premiere of Hillside by Joy Bollinger, her second major work for the company. Bollinger says, “This piece represents light versus dark: passing through a trauma, loss, hurt, or pain and finding faith, hope, and renewal on the other side.” Her first work, Carved In Stone, was critically acclaimed as “the single best new dance in 2016,” by Mark Lowery of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, in addition to being included on every 2016 Dallas Fort Worth top dance list.

Artistic Director Kimi Nikaidoh, says “I’m always interested in showcasing BWD’s range. It was only after deciding on two works that felt right to pair with Bollinger’s premiere that perseverance emerged as the prevailing theme. Depictions of endurance, redemption, and hope weave their way through each dance.”
