Danish String Quartet

Southern Methodist University - Caruth Auditorium in Owen Arts Center

With the return of the Danish Quartet, whose Dallas debut during our 2013-14 season generated exuberant praise from all quarters.  The Quartet is well known in Europe, especially after winning the Carl Nielsen Prize, often considered Denmark’s premier cultural award. In the United States, their artistic stature has been confirmed by repeated invitations to perform as a part of New York’s Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center series.

In 2014 the Danish String Quartet borrowed and arranged a selection of Nordic folk tunes on a recording that they called ‘Wood Works’. This album created quite some stir and has been featured on concert stages all over the world, on NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concerts” and even as the soundtrack in Starbucks coffee shops. Now the quartet has decided to embark on yet another journey through the rich world of Nordic folk melodies, and they have recorded and released ‘Last Leaf’ on ECM Records – another album of traditional music from the Nordic countries, the Faroe and Shetland Islands.
