“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” follows the journey of a wrongfully imprisoned barber and his vengeful return to London’s seedy underbelly. Todd played by Rocky Massey is bound and determined to take out his revenge on the evil Judge Turpin (Burl Proctor) after he unrightfully banishes him to Australia. With the help of local pie shop owner Mrs. Lovett (Lisa Avila) Todd sets forth to speak to truth to power with the use of his trusted old friends (his infamous straight razors)!
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim with the book by Hugh Wheeler, “Sweeney Todd” changed the face of musical theatre on Broadway in the 70’s. Directed by Anthony Nelson with Musical Direction by Fred Freeman, the Sherman Community Players again take on the challenging material with flair.
