UNT Guest/Faculty Recital: Better Than One harp duo Jaymee Haefner and Emily Mitchell

Duo harpists Jaymee Haefner and Emily Mitchell, aka Better Than One, are bringing new works written and arranged for two harps to enchant the audiences of Texas and beyond. Performance invitations have taken them to Austin, Fayetteville, Nacogdoches (Stephen F Austin State University) and Denton (University of North Texas). They have performed recently for Chamber Music International (Dallas), the American Harp Society’s National Conference (New Orleans), Cypress Creek Foundation for the Arts & Community Enrichment (Houston), St. John’s Lutheran Church First Friday Concert Series (San Antonio), and Astraios Chamber Music Series (Frisco, TX). 

BTO recorded Gary Schocker’s Better Than One and Snow in New York City for the Albany Records CD, “Changes”.  Released in 2016, Dennis Ferrara wrote: “This album is highly recommended for pure pleasure in listening.” Amazon.com--reviews

Dr. Jaymee Haefner is Assistant Professor of Harp and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the University of North Texas. She maintains an active role on the Boards of the American Harp Society and the World Harp Congress. She has received numerous awards including the Lauréate prize at the Madame Dulova International Harp Competition. Daniel Buckley describes her performances as possessing “an air of dreamy lyricism …”

Emily Mitchell is Artist in Residence at Stephen F. Austin State University and recently appointed to the faculty of Sam Houston State University. A 30-year career in NYC includes harp performances at Carnegie Hall and The White House, Principal Harpist for the EOS Orchestra and a recording artist for RCA-Sony/BMG. She won First Prize at the 7th International Harp Contest, Jerusalem, Israel. The New York Times has critiqued her as “a marvelous harpist”.

Free parking spaces will be available in Lot 26 (Highland Street, between Bain Hall and Music Practice South) for patrons attending performances at the College of Music on weekends and after 5:00pm on weekdays.
