Composed in 1874, the work was the basis for the popular song Tonight We Love in 1941 and became the first classical record to sell one million copies when Van Cliburn’s recording was released in 1958. Also featured is Symphony No. 5 by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1937 during the Stalin regime. Scholar Simon Morrison called it a “landmark heroic period piece” that evokes a “narrative representation of a hero’s life and death.” For more information call 214.768.2787.
