Waxahachie Chautauqua: Celebrating Public Spaces


Chautauqua Auditorium

WHAT:  An annual free daylong cultural and educational event of speakers, programs, demonstrations, music, and exhibits which expand on a different theme each year.  This event is reminiscent  of the old Chautauqua held in Waxahachie 1900-1930. 

WHEN:    Saturday, September 30, 2017, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

WHERE:  Historic Chautauqua Auditorium and in surrounding Getzendaner Park, Waxahachie, Texas.  Just 30 miles south of downtown Dallas!

2017 THEME:  "CELEBRATING PUBLIC SPACES", looking at public spaces through the perspectives of history, science, city planning, art, music, and so much more!  

 9 a.m. – Opening Ceremonies kick off the day with Songs of Welcome and other surprises.
10 a.m. - 5 p.m. - Inspiring and intriguing programs, concerts, exhibits, and demonstrations.  All about PUBLIC PLACES of community, wilderness, remembrance, prayer. art, dance, music, and imagination.

Discover Thomas Jefferson's belief that America’s Open Public Spaces could help preserve our democracy for all time - through Thomas Jefferson historical re-enactor & researcher Steven Edenbo from Philadelphia, PA.
