Nan Coulter, SEPTEMBER 14, 2017

Goss-Michael Foundation

For her first solo exhibition in Dallas, Coulter will display a series of photographs taken during her travels over the past thirty years, with subject matters ranging from portraiture to abstracted land forms. Her background in photojournalism is evident in the succinct images, yet their attitude reveals an interest beyond the pragmatic.

Framing moments with an underlying awkwardness or a notable “error,” reflection or glare, her images force the viewer to take pause. It is at this moment that one of Coulter’s primary interests is announced, that of time. Suggested by the exhibition title, 14 SEPTEMBER 2017, also the date of her opening, Coulter asks us to consider the reality of the present and its relationship with the photographs hung on the gallery wall.

Coulter studied photography at Southern Methodist University and has worked as a photojournalist with publications such as FD and The Dallas Morning News. She’s exhibited nationally in venues including The Cleveland Museum of Art and the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard University. Coulter lives and works in Dallas.

On View from September 14 - October 20, 2017. Opening Reception on September 14, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
