Lecture: Aida Urquidez on Múzquiz, a Denton Friendship City

Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum

Come listen to Denton resident and Múzquiz native Aida Urquidez as she shares about the city of Múzquiz, Mexico and its long friendship with the city of Denton.

Múzquiz is a mining city located about 100 miles south of the U.S.-Mexico border. For years, hundreds of its residents have traveled to Denton to start a business, live with family, or start a new life. Múzquiz Mayor, Luis Santos, has visited and toured Denton on several occasions, identifying aspects of Denton that he could bring back home to Múzquiz. Because of the history between the two cities, Denton and Múzquiz made their relationship official by signing a friendshp agreement in 2015.

Urquidez, a Denton ISD teacher, is part of Proyecto Diez (Project Ten)- a group that works to strengthen the relationship between Denton and Múzquiz by connecting all of the Denton residents who have ties to Múzquiz. We are very excited to hear her speak on this topic and learn more about our friendship city. We hope you will be able to join us!
