Texas Red, Hot, & Blue Jazz

Sammons Center for the Arts

Sammons Jazz kicks off its fall 2017 season with a two-set tribute to Texas jazz legends Red Garland, “Hot Lips” Page, Marchel Ivery, and James Clay. Sammons Jazz Artistic Director and Steinway Artist Arlington Jones leads an outstanding ensemble that includes current Texas Tenors Quamon Fowler, Keith Anderson, and Jason Davis, vocalist Garry Williams, bassist James Driscoll, and drummer Andrew Griffith. The group also performs the historic “Dallas Blues,” a blues standard written in 1912 but often performed in a jazz style.

Sammons Jazz is held at the Sammons Center for the Arts, 3630 Harry Hines at Oak Lawn. Tickets are $45 per person and include beverages, a light meal, and valet parking. Sammons members receive a $5 per ticket discount. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; the concert begins approximately at 7:30 p.m. There are two performance sets of about 40 minutes each with an intermission between. Dress is casual; some people come in business attire, but most wear casual, comfortable clothing.

Tickets go on sale Monday, August 14. For tickets or more information, call the Sammons Center at (214) 520-7788. All major credit cards are accepted. All artists and programs are subject to change.
