Light Painting at Night with Noel Kerns

Dallas Center for Photography

Noel Kerns is back for another two day workshop with DCP. Learn the fine art of night photography and light painting from one of the world’s most recognized artists in the genre.

This isn't the type of light painting where you see someone waving a flashlight around and drawing shapes. Noel's technique is based on never seeing the light source in the photo. You'll be using flashlights and strobes to paint the locations with light, accenting the texture, shape and forms and turning a dark location into a one of a kind work of photographic art.

The first night we will shoot at Heritage Park in Sulphur Springs and the second night we will shoot at the Texas Fire Museum. Each afternoon before the shoot we will meet for instruction and critique. The first classroom session will focus on long exposure camera techniques and include detailed tutorials on the light-painting process Noel uses to create his images. The second classroom session will center on digital workflow and final image editing. Noel will work with each student individually to select their best work.

You're ready for this unique workshop if you have a DSLR, tripod, remote release and know how to shoot in manual exposure mode.
