Be Project (Ages 6-9)


Plano Public Library System - Haggard Library

The Be Project is focused on primary prevention and addresses topics such as healthy relationships, violence in the media, dating violence, healthy communication, bullying and cyber bullying. Sessions divided by age: Ages 6-9 at 10am, ages 10-13 at 1pm, ages 14-17 at 3pm. Presented by the Family Place of Dallas.

Haggard                      Tuesdays & Thursdays                      August 1-17

 August 1 – Just the Way You Are: Self Esteem Building – Differences should be celebrated! Explore issues of diversity and being confident in who you are. Ages 6-9 10am / Ages 10-13 1pm / Ages 14-17 3pm

 August 3 – How Does it Feel? The Power of Empathy Reflect on real life situations of hurtful behaviors and build a vocabulary for expressing emotions. Ages 6-9 10am / Ages 10-13 1pm

 – Reflect on real life situations of hurtful behaviors and recognize how actions impact relationships.     Learn how empathy can create healthier friendships and dating relationships. Ages 14-17 Aug 3 3pm

 August 8 – Staying in Bounds: Discovering Your Boundaries Consider your own personal boundaries and practice techniques for setting and reinforcing them. Ages 6-9 10am / Ages 10-13 1pm / Ages 14-17 3pm

 August 10 – Speak Up: Learning to Be Assertive – Learn what it takes to stand up for yourself and others, how to communicated in an effective way, and how to argue with respect Ages 6-9 10 am / Ages 10-13 1 pm / Ages 14-17 3 pm

August 15 – Be a Fountain, Not a Drain: Healthy Friendships – Learn how to identify characteristics of a healthy friendship and realize what qualities to look for in a friend. Ages 6-9 10am / Ages 10-13 1pm

 – Learn how to identify characteristics of a healthy relationship and what qualities you would want in a friend or dating partner Ages 14-17 Aug 15 3 pm

 August 17 – Skills for Resolving Conflict – Learn how to find solutions for peer conflict and gain knowledge of how to stand up against bullying and other aggression. Ages 6-9 10am / Ages 10-13 1pm

 – Learn how to find solutions for relationship conflict and how to argue with respect. Become equipped with skills for helping a friend who is in an unhealthy or abusive relationship and learn about local resources. Ages 14-17 3pm
