Sami Cline's work is an exploration of the sensual and archival qualities of the encaustic medium. In Waxing Nostalgic, Cline layers, embeds, and “entombs” found objects, newspaper, poetry, letters, and dried flowers into the encaustic medium, evoking a fascination with the past. These notable documentations are fixed in the wax; there for anyone to see, but perhaps not to be read, reached or completely understood. Mysterious, and secretive, her works tantalize the viewer with things they cannot quite attain.
