Film Screening: The Big Red One

Join us for a screening of Samuel Fuller’s World War II drama The Big Red One, starring Lee Marvin and Mark Hamill. Based on Fuller’s experiences serving with the First Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II, The Big Red One follows a group of GIs as they fight their way from North Africa through Sicily, Omaha Beach, and Belgium. The unit ultimately liberated Falkenau, a concentration camp in Czechoslovakia.

Samuel Fuller is one of the featured directors in our special gallery exhibit, Filming the Camps: From Hollywood to Nuremberg - John Ford, Samuel Fuller, George Stevens, which runs through August 3, 2017. Some of Fuller’s first work in film was with the First Infantry Division when he filmed the liberation of Falkenau.

Run Time: 113 minutes. This film is rated R for war violence and some language.

As a follow-up to this event, the Museum will host a screening on Sunday, July 16 of Emil Weiss’s documentary Falkenau, the Impossible, which includes interviews with Samuel Fuller and incorporates his original footage of Falkenau.
