The Fort Worth Community Arts Center is pleased to announce the opening of Solo Show[Down], an open-themed, all media exhibition of international artists juried by Kimbell Art Museum Curator for Asian and non-Western Art Jennifer Casler Price. The Arts Center is located in the Cultural District at 1300 Gendy Street, Fort Worth, TX 76107. Submissions from Cuba, NYC, and Japan among locales closer to home will be on view through the month of July. An opening reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2017 from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Awards will be announced during the reception.
A Grand Prize winner will be awarded a $2,000 honorarium and a solo exhibition in the main gallery at Art7, a storefront gallery located in Crocket Row in Fort Worth's popular 7th Street development near the Cultural District. Concurrently, runners-up will be included in a group exhibition in the back section of the Art7. A People's Choice award of $250 will be awarded to a single artist who receives the most likes on Facebook during the term of the exhibition.
Price has curated over twenty major exhibitions since 1993. Her areas of expertise include Buddhist sculpture, Chinese antiquities, Japanese ukiyo-e painting, Tibetan Esoteric Buddhist painting, Mughal painting, African sculpture, Oceanic art, and Mayan are, among others. She most recently curated Louis I. Kahn, The Power of Architecture, a definitive retrospective of the American architect’s portfolio. A seasoned traveler, she has also juried exhibitions for the Dallas Business Committee for the Arts, the San Antonio Art Museum League and the Fort Worth Main Street Arts Festival. Jennifer has been a commissioner on the Fort Worth Public Art Commission since October 2014 and currently serves as Chair of the Commission. She has been a member of the Association of American Museum Curators (AAMC) since its founding in 2001.
The Arts Council was formed in 1963 to provide funding and leadership that would stimulate and assure the advancement of the arts throughout the Fort Worth community. Today’s Arts Council serves and responds to the needs of local artists, arts organizations, and residents through diverse channels, each with a significant impact on the quality of life in Fort Worth. The Arts Council manages the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, provides leadership and funding to local arts organizations through a competitive Grants Program and administers the Fort Worth Public Art program on behalf of the City. Located in one of the most architecturally significant museum districts in the United States the Fort Worth Community Arts Center makes its home in a striking modern Herbert Bayer building (with a later O’Neil Ford addition).
