Discover one of the oldest methods of dyes which has been used for centuries. Using synthetic indigo, we will achieve the same look as true indigo to resist and dye your own fabrics. Using traditional shibori methods with household materials, such as clothespins, PVC pipes, rubber bands, or Popsicle sticks, students will be able to create unique designs on their fabric with the dye. Because the dye only needs to be oxidized, the fabric does not need to sit for long periods of time, like other dyes. After pulling it out of the vat, the indigo changes from a bright green color to a deep blue in front of your eyes and the fabric is ready to be washed, dried and used. The indigo lends itself to creating varied designs even when resisting the fabric in similar ways, the results are truly beautiful. Indigo is an inexpensive and quick way to create unique pieces of art that are accessible to all levels of skill.
