Rock on: Record Album Art
(Visual Arts/Drawing & Painting/Mixed Media/Graphic Design)

The 1960s and 1970s musical experiences were “far out” and “groovy.” Many new recording artists were bursting on the scene, such as the Doors, the Beatles, and the Mamas and the Papas and the art that adorned the printed cardboard cover that packaged the vinyl LP was often as exciting and celebrated as the music inside. Using paint and a variety of media, students will create their own “album covers” in the psychedelic and abstract styles popular during these times.

Instructor: Nancy Petty

Mad about Multiples: Relief Printmaking
(Visual Arts/Printmaking)

Pop Art of the 1960s and today’s popular culture will be the inspiration for campers to create an image for their custom, hand-made prints. After carving their original design on a printing plate, it will be printed using traditional printmaking tools and colored inks to create a T-shirt in the repeating style of Andy Warhol.

Instructor: Kimberly Black

Self Portraits: 1960s Icons
(Visual Arts/Drawing & Painting)

Dream it! Be it! You will be designing, drawing and painting yourself as your favorite historical person or character from that era … an astronaut, a hippie, a famous musician or artist, a civil rights hero? You decide!

Instructor: Teresa Parsons

Beginning to Intermediate Guitar
(Music)

Learn the basics of music reading, practice notes and chords and explore various musical genres. The guitar lesson for each class is dependent on each student’s previous musical experiences and skill level. Instruments are provided; however, students that already play are encouraged to bring their instruments to class for extra instruction and enrichment.

Instructor: Jeremy Emmert

‘60s Dance Craze Daze – Part 1
(Dance/Movement/Cultural Studies)

Inspired by our summer’s camp theme, dancers will explore dances from the ‘60s including the Twist, the Madison, the Mashed Potato and the Stroll. Class includes warm-ups, progressions and combinations. Comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes are recommended. No sandals or flip flops, please.
