The 80th Anniversary of the Robert Johnson Recordings Concert

Encore Park

In honor of the 80th Anniversary of the Robert Johnson recordings at 508 Park by the American Record Corporation, Encore Park and the Trinity River Blues Society is hosting an intimate evening of songs and stories. The event will feature acoustic performances by Texas Slim, Jim Suhler, Aaron Burton and JMac. Come early at 7 p.m. and take a complimentary tour of the famous 508 Park building since completing phase one of its restoration.

Legendary blues musician, Robert Johnson made music and blues history at 508 Park when he recorded half of his songs there in 1937. Johnson’s only recordings were produced by Don Law and Art Satherley of the American Record Corporation (Brunswick and Vocalion). Johnson died shortly after in 1938. His music was rereleased by Columbia Records in 1961 as “King of the Delta Blues Singers,” influencing musicians around the world. Robert Johnson’s music inspired legendary artists like B.B. King, Eric Clapton, and Keith Richards.
