Meadows Wind Ensemble: The Ink’s Still Wet…Friday, May 5, 2017 7:30 p.m.Caruth Auditorium – Owen Arts Center, 6101 Bishop Blvd. on the SMU campus.
$14 for adults, $11 for seniors, $8 for students, faculty & staff
The Ink’s Still Wet… celebrates all those who create – composers, painters, poets, choreographers and more – and will feature world premieres by Meadows composers Kevin Hanlon and Derrick Horne. Hanlon’s For Ross was composed for the MWE and is dedicated to the memory of longtime Meadows professor and clarinetist Ross Powell. The work is scored, appropriately, for six clarinets! Horne, a new Meadows faculty member and recent Meadows alum, will perform as soloist on his composition Color Fusion: Concerto for Electric Guitar and Wind Ensemble; the work represents a synthesis of styles and traditions, much like the composer himself! This “can’t miss” concert will conclude with the world premiere of a work composed on commission for the MWE by Meadows alumnus Uriah Rinzel, Wind Symphony No. 1: Candide.
