Backyard Activism Day (Women Galore Kick Off)


The Wild Detectives

The kickoff event for the feminist literary arts festival, Women Galore, will be a day dedicated to action.

Discover ways to get involved with non-profit organizations and groups dedicated to offering support and services to women’s and LGBT issues. Conversations throughout the day will include “Why You Should Run for Public Office” and “What It Means to Be an Advocate.” DJs Good Taste Collective and friends will be spinning records by female musicians. Angela Hunt will discuss the importance of political participation on every level.

Additional Speakers:
From 1 – 2 p.m.
Elizabeth Souder, Viewpoints and Points Editor at the Dallas Morning News will lead a workshop on “How to Write a Strong Editorial”

Edie Lycke from Annie’s List will discuss importance of developing a strong pipeline of female candidates and the sad state of female representation in the Texas houses, which currently includes just two female state senators, and 20 state representatives.

Judge Bonnie Goldstein will discuss her career and how she came to elected office in the judicial sphere.

Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, Grow North Texas, LIFT, Ignite, Genesis Women’s Shelter, Planned Parenthood, TEA, Mothers Against Police Brutality.
