Barbara Horlander: Pink on the Inside

Ro2 Art in The Cedars

Ro2 Art is pleased to present Pink on the Inside, a solo exhibition featuring new mixed media works by Barbara Horlander. In her new installation, Horlander places an emphasis on the intimate workings of the female body, as it morphs and adapts to the inevitable effects of time. The show will run from April 22 through May 20, 2017, with an opening reception held Saturday, April 22, from 7-10 p.m. at Ro2 Art, located at 1501 S. Ervay Street in The Cedars neighborhood of Dallas.

Barbara Horlander’s current work reflects her interest in materials, building and exploring ideas of the body and its assorted maladies related to aging. Using deliberately chosen materials and techniques, she constructs objects with a nod to the handcrafted. Corporeal textures are revealed which titillate our senses, provoking a desire to touch. This exchange of time and unspoken conversation rouses a relationship between maker and beholder.

Barbara Horlander is currently a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Painting candidate at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. In 2015 she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she graduated with highest distinction. In 1988 she received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Fine Art at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California.

Horlander spent twenty years working in various roles in Retail Visual Merchandising and Display where she honed her skills in the design and production of window displays, prop building, and the execution of large scale fashion runways and major installations.
