Gender and The Fantastic in Hispanic Studies with Dr Patricia García

The Wild Detectives

Join The Wild Detectives for an evening of conversation with Dr. Patricia García about the hugely overlooked legacy of Hispanic women authors in the Fantastic. Women Galore is around the corner, and this will set the tone for all the amazing events that are coming in the following weeks.

The fantastic is particularly prolific in Hispanic countries during the 20th and 21st centuries, largely due to the legacy of short story writers such as Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortázar as well as the Latin-American boom, which presented alternatives to the predominant model of literary realism. However, the presence of Hispanic women writers of the fantastic on set texts in Higher Education modules, libraries, anthologies, bookshops and academic research is extremely limited.
