Lecture: Barbara Ortwein Book Lecture and Sing-a-Long

Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum

Barbara Ortwein, German historical fiction writer and music teacher, will continue our lecture series on April 19 from 12 - 1 p.m.in the Commissioner's Courtroom at the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square. Ortwein's presentation will include a discussion of her two books and a sing-a-long of traditional German songs.

Ortwein was born and raised in Westphalia, Germany. On top of her careers in writing and music education, she is also a playwright, travel guide and 16-year leader of a German-Texas school exchange program. Her participation in the exchange program led her to discover more about the history of German immigration to Texas in the mid-1800s. She has since published two historical-fiction books, "Between Worlds Never to Return" and "In the Heart of Texas but Not Yet Home," based on Germans immigrating and settling into their new Texan lives in the southwest.
