Musicians from the Lone Star State’s accordion-based music genres, including German, Czech, and Polish polka; Creole, Cajun, and zydeco; conjunto, norteño, and Tejano; and country and western, compete in various Texas cities in hopes of advancing to finals and winning a new Hohner accordion and cash prizes.
In Dallas, musicians 21 and under who have registered to compete in The Big Squeeze Youth Accordion Contest will have the chance to perform in Encore Park's 508 Amphitheater, a new venue connected to the historic 508 Park building where Lolo Cavazos, Robert Johnson, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, Gene Autry, The Light Crust Doughboys, and more recorded.
Tejano musical groups Los De La Cruz, Conjunto Baraja de Oro, Clementino Lopez, Aaron Salinas, and Los Morales Boyz will perform before and after the contest.
Supported in part by The Restoration Fund of Communities Foundation of Texas, Texas Folklife, Conjunto Baraja de Oro and KNON-FM 89.3. Small coolers, lawn chairs, and blankets welcome. No pets, firearms, or high heels.
