Austin College has brought legendary teaching to life since 1849. Today, it brings legendary leaders to the 1,350 students on its liberal arts campus nestled in Sherman, Texas, and to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
For more than a decade, the Austin College Posey Leadership Award has annually honored an individual who demonstrates servant leadership with global impact. The $100,000 award was endowed by Dallas philanthropists Lee and Sally Posey, ensuring a global perspective on public policy, humanitarian needs, and values-based education for the Austin College campus and the North Texas community.
Each year, the Posey Leadership Award recipient is presented with the award check and delivers a keynote address to students, faculty, local and state dignitaries, and community leaders. The presentation to 2017’s recipient, Dr. Vikram Patel, will take place on March 29 at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas. Patel will discuss issues of access to mental health solutions in low-resourced areas.
