Victorian Texas: Come inside the Victorian Cottage, the One Room School, and the Gilbert House

Farmers Branch Historical Park

The Victorian era didn’t just happen in England—Texans adopted it as well! Come to the Historical Park this Sunday to see some of our best buildings from the mid to late Victorian era. Our beautiful Queen Anne Victorian Cottage will be open for touring with a costumed guide. And if you’ve ever wanted to see inside our one room schoolhouse, this is your chance! A docent will be available to answer your questions as you sit in the desks, write on the slates, and learn why blackboards are called blackboards. The Gilbert House will also be open; built before the Civil War by Dr. Gilbert and his family, the home is a excellent chance to explore medicine and medical practices of the past. A costumed docent will be on hand to help you explore the doctor’s kit and the rest of the home. For more information call 972.406.0184 or email [email protected].
