Nasher Sculpture Center is pleased to announce the seventh season of Soundings: New Music at the Nasher under the artistic direction of Seth Knopp.
Individual tickets on sale March 7.
Composer and clarinetist Jörg Widmann is one of the great muses of our time. Whether conjuring echoes of Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Schumann, theatrically exploring sounds on the outside of a piano, playfully tearing apart a percussion set-up, or exploring the vast, expressive possibilities of the string quartet, Widmann’s music takes us to places that seem at once irresistibly new and familiar in ways that profoundly change us.
Soundings invites its audience to immerse itself in Widmann’s creative world as the artist serves composer-in-residence at the Nasher for a series of three concerts and open discussions. The rare opportunity to hear his complete cycle of five string quartets, the North American premiere of his song cycle, Das Heisse Herz, and Widmann’s own solo clarinet recital, will form the foundation of an experience that represents an very extraordinary moment in Soundings’ history.
Friday, April 7, 7:30 pm: Jörg Widmann’s Solo Clarinet Recital
Saturday, April 8, 7:30 pm: Complete Cycle of Five String Quartets
Sunday, April 9, 2:00 pm: North American Premiere of Song Cycle Das Heisse Herz
*Season tickets include seating at all three concerts.
