Bandan Kora: West African Dance and Drumming
South Dallas Cultural Center

Join us Saturday morning for an exciting journey through African Dance including warm-up exercises, teaching of traditional rhythms and dances.  While African drums hold a special place in the history of our culture, most often in today’s society they are used only to entertain or serve as background music. Students will learn about the Djembe drum one of the most influential and basic of all the African drums. The Djembe is used in healing ceremonies, rites of passage, ancestral tributes, warrior rituals, as well as social dances. We will provide you with a drum but you can bring your own.
