Souther is perhaps best known for the songs he wrote and co-wrote for The Eagles — including
“Best Of My Love”, “New Kid In Town”, “Heartache Tonight”, “Sad Café”, “Victim Of Love”, and more.
Born in Detroit, raised in Texas, and part of "The California Sound", of the 1970's, JD Souther has written and performed with The Eagles, ("You're Only Lonely", "Heartache Tonight", "Sad Cafe"), James Taylor ("Her Town, Too"), Linda Ronstadt ("Faithless Love"), and many more. His works have been performed by the likes of Brian Wilson, George Strait, The Dixie Chicks, Roy Orbison, Bonnie Raitt, Bernadette Peters, Trisha Yearwood, and Brooks and Dunn. He's performed in movies and on television and in 2013, he was inducted into the Songwriter Hall Of Fame. On his more recent releases, JD Souther continues down new paths in sound and style, stretching musically, balancing his pop and jazz sensibilities.
Souther’s own hit, "You're Only Lonely” was #7 on the Billboard Charts, and his duet with James Taylor, “Her Town, Too" hit #11 on the Charts. Souther also recorded several duets with Linda Ronstadt, including "Hasten Down the Wind," "Prisoner in Disguise," "Sometimes You Can't Win", and "Hearts Against the Wind" which was featured in the 1980 film Urban Cowboy.
Souther appeared in a recurring role of country songwriter and producer Watty White in the ABC drama series Nashville.
