Missy And Heine Andersen - Blues & Soul Duo

Opening Bell Coffee

If a voice as rich, supple, and vibrant as Missy Andersen’s could come out of a bottle - not that it hasn’t been tried - every blues singer would be dripping deep soul.- DAVE RUBIN, 2005 Keeping the Blues Alive in Journalism recipient

San Diego - Two-time Blue Music Award nominee and soul blues singer, Missy Andersen is joined by guitarist/bandleader/husband, Heine Andersen for their “2 x the LOVE” Tour in February 2016.  Besides a heavy touring schedule with their band, the dynamic twosome also perform as a duo which displays the mesmerizing contrast of Missy’s earthy vocals and Heine’s phenomenal guitar work. Missy and Heine are making their Dallas appearance at Opening Bell.

Back in October 2014, Missy and Heine were slated to represent San Diego in the Duo/Solo competition of the International Blues Challenge.  Two short months later, a Blues Music Award nomination effectively sidelined the duo. IBC participants cannot appear on a final BMA ballot and they were subsequently disqualified, marking the first time a contestant was disqualified for this reason since the rule was instated. Along with the BMA came new found popularity and the duo focused on touring with the band.  You can't keep a good thing down though, so the Duo is back and they're taking it on the road.

A charismatic performer known for her expressive vocals, Missy received the coveted Blues Music Award nomination for Soul Blues Female Artist in 2015 and then again in 2016.  Her sophomore album, In the Moment, received rave reviews from both critics and fans, ending 2014 on Living Blues Radio Charts Top 50 Albums.  In 2015, Missy also received two Blues Blast Music Awards nominations for Soul Blues Artist and for Soul Blues Album.  The year ended with the CD appearing on Roots Music Report's Best of 2015 for Blues Album and Contemporary Blues Album despite having been released a year earlier. Says Missy, "It just won't die.  What a wonderful problem to have."

Originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, Heine Andersen has toured extensively in both Europe and North America, playing some of the most prestigious stages and festivals including Montreux Jazz Fest, Notodden Blues Festival, and Piazza Blues Festival.  As half of a duo act or lead guitarist in a larger group, Heine has shared the bill or opened for the likes of Robert Cray, Etta James, Koko Taylor, and The Temptations to name a few.

With both duo and band tours in the works for 2016, the Andersens are excited about the future and looking forward to whatever comes next.
