MLK Jr. Oratory Competition

Majestic Theatre

Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP is proud to continue its tradition of extolling the work and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the Annual MLK Jr. Oratory Competitions held in Dallas and Houston.

"Our Firm is proud to continue its sponsorship of this competition featuring outstanding fourth and fifth grade students." says Dwight M. Francis, co-chair of Gardere's Diversity Committee. "The contest encourages scholarship while reinforcing the need for unity and the vital human traits of compassion and justice – traits that are crucial throughout the community."

This year, students delivered original three to five minute speeches answering the question, “What would Dr. King say in his campaign speech if he were running for president this year?”

Established in 1993 in Dallas and expanded four years later to Houston, this unique event encourages the development of research, writing and oratory skills of hundreds of Dallas and Houston elementary school children. The students' speeches not only address how Dr. King impacts today's world but also illustrate how his words continue to affect their lives and inspire their perspectives.
