Sammons Cabaret: Heather Paterson

Sammons Center for the Arts

Researchers may still be studying if music can be used as medicine, but anyone who has heard Heather Paterson sing instantly feels pretty good. The 2011 Sammons Jazz Artist of the Year kicks off the spring season of Sammons Cabaret with a healthy dose of great music. She taught voice and sang with several jazz and pop groups in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for several years after earning her degree in opera, vocal performance, and music pedagogy from Southern Methodist University. She returned to college to study nursing, eventually becoming a Master’s prepared nurse practitioner at Children’s. She is still a nurse, but luckily for her music fans, she returned to the concert stage after a ten year absence.

The Snyder Family Series of Sammons Cabaret is held in Kurth Hall, located on the fourth floor of the Sammons Center for the Arts, 3630 Harry Hines at Oak Lawn. Admission is regular $40 and $35 for Sammons members with open seating, except reserved seating for Top Hat members. Admission includes complimentary beverages, light appetizers, and valet parking. Doors to Kurth Hall open at 7:30 p.m.; performances begin approximately at 8:00 p.m. Refreshments are served from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and during intermission on the Mary Anne Sammons Cree Mezzanine Level (second floor).

Each performance features two performance sets of about an hour each with an intermission between. Dress is casual; some people come in business attire, but many wear dressy casual or after five attire. Order reservations by using the enclosed form or by calling the Sammons Center at (214) 520-7788; all major credit cards are accepted. For more information, call (214) 520-7788 or visit www.sammonsartcenter.org.
