SOLD OUT
Sammons Jazz closes its spring season with two sets led by Sammons Jazz Artistic Director and Steinway Artist Arlington Jones. In the opening set, he fronts The Brethren, featuring drummer Andrew Griffith and bassist Braylon Lacy, in a musical tribute to jazz pianist Erroll Garner. They explore the music of the iconic Garner, who brought us “Misty” and one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time, the 1956 live recording of Concert By The Sea.
Arlington Jones returns to the stage with Bobby Sparks on B-3 organ, Braylon Lacy on bass, and Brannen Temple on drums for a set of “soul jazz.” The Soul Gents is a stellar group sure to make soul jazz, a style influenced by the blues, gospel, soul and R&B and most popular in the mid-to-late 1960s, well-received again.
Presenting great jazz since 1989, Sammons Jazz is held at the Sammons Center for the Arts, 3630 Harry Hines at Oak Lawn. Ticket prices are regular $40 and $35 for members with open seating for all. Ticket prices include beverages, a light meal, and valet parking. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; the performance begins approximately at 7:30 p.m. Each performance features two sets of about an hour each with an intermission between. Dress is casual. For more information or to order tickets, call the Sammons Center at (214) 520-7788; all major credit cards are accepted.
