BEATcreative (Beginners)

BEATcreative is a course designed for students to discover themselves through beatboxing and improvisation. Unlike other music classes where students learn how to use instruments, BEATcreative is unique in that the students are the instruments.

Each week students will create an original piece of music comprised of their voices and small percussion instruments. Musician and Instructor, Robert Trusko will guide students through looping, sampling, recording their improvisations using software sequencer, Ableton Live. At the end of the semester the class songs will be compiled into an album. Each student will receive a copy of their album, and will get to design their own custom cover.

During the course students will learn about their relationship with grooves, musical styles, improvisation, and rhythm in through a unique approach lead by Robert. BEATcreative is intended for youth that want to beatbox, play percussion, sing, rap, and dance in a welcoming environment. If you play an instrument you are more than welcome to bring it!

The approach to BEATcreative is inspired by the B.E.A.T. (Bringing Education and Art Together) program in New York City.

Robert is a composer, producer, bass player, and vocalist. He creates music through improvisation and utilizes Ableton Live, a music software program that lets you create ideas, make changes without stopping, and capture everything as you work. Robert received an M.A. in Music Composition from the University of North Texas and is an active musician in the Dallas-Fort Worth music scene.
