Deep Vellum's inaugural book club in our new bookstore will feature translator Sergio Waisman leading a discussion on Ricardo Piglia's Romulo Gallegos Prize-winning detective-noir-paranoid fiction masterpiece, 'Target in the Night,' which NPR's Michael Schaub hailed as "an absolute joy to read."
Waisman will delve into all the guts and glory of Piglia's work in a fun, conversational manner, answering questions about the methods he employed translating Piglia, as well as the inner workings of the novel and the layers of historical and cultural references to Argentina's Dirty War and the detective novel and noir traditions of authors Piglia draws upon for inspiration as varied as Jorge Luis Borges and Raymond Chandler.
