Please join us at modartists gallery to celebrate the opening of Sculpture - featuring the works of Laura Walter Abrams and Jerry Freid.
Sculpture as a medium wears two hats. By its nature it can be either intimidating and welcoming because the art exists in and occupies the same space as the viewer. Paintings present a fabulous window into the imagination of the artist, but with sculpture you see the artist’s imagination manifested right in front of you. The latest show from modartists gallery introduces you to the individual work of sculptors Laura Walters Abrams and Jerry Freid. Their idiosyncratic approaches to metalwork create a fascinating synthesis when taken together, and also establish a brilliantly stark framework with which to appreciate the unique qualities of each individual work.
Laura Walters Abrams has been an easily recognizable force on the Dallas arts scene for well over a decade now. Her organic interpretations of nature, whether animal or vegetable, emphasize shape and fluid motion that gives her work a weightless quality that belies the sometimes inelegant weight of her chosen material. Her work can be found around the city in both private collections and public installations.
Jerry Freid has lived many lives in multiple professional fields, but the backbone of creativity each demanded points to his lifelong fascination and passion for art. He earned his BFA from the University of Texas at Austin under master sculptor Karl Umlauf and proceeded into the fields of advertising and jewelry, but has always found his way back to sculpture. His work has been part of the Austin, Teas Biennial and Texas Biennial exhibitons, and is part of the permanent collection at North Park.
