Sammons Jazz: A Grand Night for Swinging

Sammons Center for the Arts

The opening set by The Brethren features Sammons Jazz Artistic Director and Steinway Artist Arlington and drummer Will Kennedy, a 14-year member of the storied Grammy Award-winning ensemble, the Yellowjackets. These friends groove with a rousing exploration of jazz and improvisation using just two percussion instruments, the piano and drums.

Steeped in the grand tradition of the Texas Tenors, saxophonist Quamon Fowler dazzles audiences with his amazing musical chops. He fronts Q and The Crew, a gifted quintet that includes Carl Wagner on alto sax, Colin Campbell on piano, Young Heo on bass, and Terence Hobdy on drums.

Presenting great jazz since 1989, Sammons Jazz is held at the Sammons Center for the Arts, 3630 Harry Hines at Oak Lawn. Ticket prices are regular $40.00 and $35.00 for members with open seating for all. Ticket prices include beverages, a light meal, and valet parking. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; the performance begins approximately at 7:30 p.m. Each performance features two sets of about an hour each with an intermission between. Dress is casual.
