Artist Reception: self unfixed: picturing identity


Bath House Cultural Center

Reception with the artists: Saturday, April 1 (6-8 PM)

The Bath House Cultural Center presents self unfixed: picturing identity, an exhibition of artworks by thirty-eight local and regional artists examining the varied and often fluid terrain of the self. Family and cultural traditions, geographic and social influences, aspects and experiences of the physical and emotional self, race and sexuality are represented in a variety of media. This exhibition is a celebration of, and a thank you gift to, our community.

The exhibition features art pieces by Olivia Arratia , Deborah Ballard, Bartosz Beda, Nishiki Sugawara-Beda, Abraham Benjamin, Jeremy Biggers , Joey Brock, Behnaz Bigmoradi / Dora Brought Plenty, Ryan Bustamente, Chong Keun Chu , Jer’Lisa Devezin, Carlos Donjuan, Sara Dotterer, Ariel Evans and Gabrielle Evans, Jill Foltz, Tyric Francis, Vanessa Garcia, Marilu Flores Gruben, Sandra Lara, Brian Larney, Tina Medina, Vicki Meek, Vanessa Meshack, Cris Monterrubio, Juan Alberto Negroni , Mylan Nguyen, Diane Pereira a.k.a. Red Milk Crone, Tonatiuh Perez, Angelica Rojas, Dianne Schlies, Paula Selzer, Erica Stephens, Narong Tintamusik, Jessica Vollrath, David Willburn, Kade Winterton, and Claudia Zapata.

The exhibition was curated by Kathy Windrow, who serves as Professor of Art and Art History at Dallas College, Eastfield Campus, and as Adjunct Professor in Art History and Theatre at SMU.  Kathy is also a visual artist with many years of exhibition experience.

This show is presented in conjunction with Dallas Arts Month, a city-wide celebration of Dallas arts. Since its creation in 2013, Arts Month has been dedicated to building awareness for and appreciation of the work of Dallas artists and organizations and fostering creative learning and activity throughout the city.
