Inspired by the success of Art Meets Poetry '22: Pandemic Perspective--Exhibit and Food Drive, this brainchild program by Barry Rynk (past secretary) and the wholehearted concurrence of Beth Ayers (past president) and members of the McKinney Mockingbird Poetry Society (a Chapter of the Poetry Society of Texas), the program came to life in spite of the uninvited snowstorm on February 5, 2022. But without the collaboration of the Art Club of McKinney, the Art House, the Heard-Craig Center of the Arts and the McKinney Art Community, Art Meets Poetry '22 might have not been like a Cinderella dream come true.
Quoting Barry Rynk, "I think this year is going to be greater than last year's event." The same collaborative principal team spearheaded this year's event. There are now three groupings of the program, namely:
(1) Poetry/Art Exhibit Pairings with 18 poets and 18 artists participating. In this regard, the 18 poets submitted each poem and artists chose the poems for their visual/digital interpretive art such as painting in oil canvas, drawing in watercolors, sculpture, mixed media, etc.
(2) Art/Ekphrastic Poetry Exhibit Pairings with 14 artists submitted each art and 14 poets chose the arts to write Ekphrastic poems (describe and respond to art.) Note: Added this year.
(3) Same Artists/Poet Exhibit Pairings. In this regard, the artist is also a poet or vice versa.
In totality more artists and poets have participated this year,
