Orchestra of New Spain Presents Christmas at Our Redeemer

Our Redeemer Lutheran Church

Christmas at Our Redeemer

This seasonal favorite features a lively program of baroque Cantatas, villancicos and carols from Mexico, Bolivia, Cuba and Spain. Spanish composers include the ever-popular Padre Antonio Soler, noted for his secular sense of humor expressed in the 130 villancicos he composed for the Nativity, Francisco Courcelle for his celebrative Cantatas for the Royal court, and Jose de Nebra for his glorious Matins Christmas service.  Mexican composers from the Mexico City Cathedral  are Manuel de Zumaya known for his range of styles from Renaissance to Baroque, and Ignacio Jerusalem, a violin virtuoso working in a ’galant’ style. Cuba is represented by Esteban Salas, and Bolivia by an anonymous Jesuit priest. The dramatic approach of these 17th and 18th century IberAmerican works make for an ideal Christmas concert for the whole family.

Reception to follow.

Admission is complimentary and donations are welcomed.
