CONSTRUCTION ON THE NEUTRAL GROUND: Dan Charbonnet

University of Dallas (UD) - Beatrice M. Haggerty Gallery

This exhibition features Dan Charbonnet’s interlaced paintings in his first exhibition in the Dallas area. The paintings are constructed of strips of canvas woven together to create works of art that are inspired by the city of New Orleans where he lives and works. The exhibition represents Charbonnet's most significant body of work since abandoning painting for nearly a decade after the trauma of waiting for 7 days to be rescued from the roof of his studio in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. In the works, one finds the calm among the chaos and a distillation of the charm and grit of the Southern Louisiana coast and that enchanting city at the mouth of the Mississippi Delta.
Dan Charbonnet is a Louisiana native and graduate of the University of New Orleans where he received a Masters of Fine Arts in painting. His works are in museums and private collections across the country including the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
