Dante’s Divine Comedy: A Guided Discussion With Joan Canby


The Writer's Garret

Over two Saturday mornings, join poet Joan Canby to explore Dante’s Divine Comedy and its resonance in the contemporary world. Drawing on the grand allegories present in his work, the conversations will touch on the themes, audacity and poetry of Dante’s work, and how they continue to inspire writers, as well as his place in the geographical and literary context of his own time.

Note: The discussion will take place over 2 Saturday mornings, October 15th and October 22nd.

Joan Canby has her degrees (BA, MA) in Comparative Literature with an emphasis on the Renaissance (French, Italian, English, Spanish and Latin literature). She has her MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts in Poetry. She has been widely published, to include: Frogpond, Modern Haiku, Poetry South, Forage, Place Journal, Cape Rock, Comstock Review, Broken Plate, Main Street Rag, and Presence. Her chapbook Metaxe was published in 2010. Her chapbook Cascades was published in spring of 2022 by Assure Press.
