ELIGIBILITY:
The open call is applicable to all artists over the age of 18 living in Texas that are currently enrolled at a higher learning institution.
AWARDS:
3 Juror’s Choice awards are given out to selected artists as cash awards. One of the Juror's Choice award winners will receive a solo exhibition in our Project Space for the 2022-2023 Season.
ABOUT THE JUROR:
Jer’Lisa J. Devezin explores the intersectional relationships of form and the figure through interdisciplinary practice. Her work is influenced by African and Haitian Art, Black Culture, personal experience, and the effects of socioeconomics on marginalized communities. Devezin received her Bachelor of Arts at Dillard University in 2011, and a Master of Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University in 2019. She was an artist in residence at the Joan Mitchell Center, New Orleans from 2013-14, and her work has been shown in several galleries and Museums, Antenna Gallery, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, The Pollock Gallery, The Carillion Gallery, 500X Gallery, The MAC, Nasher Sculpture Center, and Talley Dunn Gallery where she was a recipient of the inaugural Equity in the Arts Fellowship in 2020-21. Jer’Lisa currently works as a Visiting Lecturer of Interdisciplinary Art at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.
ENTRY FEE & PROCEDURE:
A sliding scale (pay what you can) of $10-30 will cover the entry fee for up to 5 individual artwork submissions (2D works only need one photo, up to 2 additional photos can be submitted for 3D works or installations). There are no size restrictions. All submission fees received go towards the Juror's Choice Award (see Awards description below) and to ensure 500X is able to continue to provide exhibition opportunities for the DFW arts community.
Payment: visit the following link (http://www.500x.org/shop/collegeexpo2022submissionfee) and pay whatever you can in increments of $5 between $10-30. Submissions without an entry fee will not be considered unless otherwise discussed with 500X Gallery.
For artwork submissions, we are ONLY accepting a link to a folder that contains your submission contents. Upload high-quality jpeg files to a folder using file sharing like DropBox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, etc. for the juror to make their selections from. You MUST ensure that you have the proper permissions for your folders.
EXHIBITION SCHEDULE:
Exhibition duration - February 19 to March 12, 2022
Deadline for artwork submission: Sunday, January 23rd before midnight
500X notifies selected artists: Wednesday, February 2nd by 9 pm
Artwork drop-off: Saturday, February 12th and Sunday, February 13th at 12-5 pm
Exhibition opens: Saturday, February 19th at 12 pm
Opening reception: Saturday, February 19th 7-10 pm
Exhibition closes: Sunday, March 12th at 5 pm
NOTE: The time between notification and drop off is on a quick turnaround time! If accepted, be sure you are able to have your work ready to ship/drop off by the dates listed above.
DIGITAL FILE FORMAT REQUIREMENTS:
-JPG/JPEG files only
-Name each file as follows: FirstName_LastName_NumberOfEntry. Example: Jane_Doe_01.jpg
-JPG/JPEG files only for image files
-If submitting a video, upload a compressed .mov file
-Image files should be approximately 2100 pixels (7 inches) on the longest side
-300 ppi (pixels per inch) resolution
-We suggest a compression setting of 7 or 8 when saving in Photoshop or Elements. You can also use the "save for web" function on Photoshop for compression purposes. sRGB color space is recommended, whether black and white or color.
-Maximum file size is 5MB in the JPG’s closed and compressed state. JPGs that are open in an application will be much larger. It’s the closed size that matters.
-If you use layers, flatten the image.
